Symphony Orchestra Audition Requirements
Please note the audition requirements have changed for Spring 2020 Online Auditions. Your audition video will have three components

String Players
1) Readily play through at least 5th position, demonstrating a command of shifting 2) Be able to play with good intonation and expressiveness (dynamics, articulations, slurs, interpreting the melodies and musical ideas) 3) Three scales of no less than three octaves with the accompanying arpeggios chosen from the scale sheets below. 4) Two contrasting pieces, (slow-fast or expressive-more technical/virtuosic). You do not need to place the whole concerto or etude, an excerpt of no less than 2 minutes will suffice. 5) WYSO Ensemble Prepared Excerpt, see list below for download. Specific Instrument Details: Viola - Ability to read treble clef Cello - Ability to read tenor clef For Principal Chairs & Concertmaster/mistress These will be determined in August 2020 during our placement hearings. You will be emailed an excerpt at a later date once you are accepted. We understand you may not have had a chance to bring home your percussion pack nor may have a drum pad at home. We will base your audition requirements based off of what is safely available to you. |
Winds & Brass

School Participation Policy:
It is expected that students who enroll in any WYO program also continue to participate in their school ensemble (band, orchestra or choir). If an ensemble is not offered at a student's school, you may also elect to take music theory, appreciation or any music course offered by the school. In the case that no musical classes are offered, OR if an unresolvable scheduling conflict prevents you from taking an ensemble music class, please let us know. WYO works in partnership with our local public schools, private schools and music teachers. We are passionately committed to supporting our local music programs and teachers.
